Super Babies

Super Babies!!!

We are close, so very close to designer babies.  I am not sure how up to speed you are but let me give you the run down.  CrispR:  Technique used to sever and introduce new genes into DNA.  Chinese CC5 babies:  Twins that have been genetically engineered to resist HIV.  These are facts.  This is happening now.  It wont be much farther into the future when ethical qualms stop outweighing predicted benefits of expensive designer babies.  Genetics can be tied to almost everything, in at least some small way, about a person and we are starting to control heritable genes with science.  Dare we play GOD?  The answer is YES WE DARE.  Or at least some of us do, those with less than rigorous scruples.  But since when has that stopped us from advancement?  Consider the atom bomb!  I would go so far as to say this is more of a paradigm shift than the manhattan project ever was.  Imagine babies with super high IQ, extremely creative, super strong, fast, and flexible, as well as any type of personality predisposition.  I could easily be describing the next Einstein or Hitler, fortune 500 CEO or mad scientist.  Any state power using this technology without moral and ethical considerations could easily create an army of super strong angry babies to grow up to become super aggressive over powered soldiers.  The implications are practically limitless.  Will you be able to identify with your grandchild?  I doubt that if they supersede you in intellect by 7 that there will be much bonding.  How about disciplining a teenager 3 times as strong as yourself.  Sound like fun.  I think not.  These super babies will bring all kinds of wonder when they get here, but at least as many problems will arise as well.  What do we do if everyone wants to be white or brown?  Does it matter?  Should everyone be really smart?  Are all of these problems worth the destruction of infirmity?  Will there be a price on health and longevity?  Will you pay it?  How about for your own grandchildren?  These questions and more need to be addressed or at least talked about more in the ether!!  I do not have the answers.  I only know this technology has the possibility to be used for the betterment or the detriment of mankind.  Personally f I am allowed to pay for this for my grandchildren I will leverage myself to the hilt in order to afford it, for any advantage, and I imagine many others will as well.  I only fear that this will divide an already divided world further into the haves and have nots.  It is sad to say but while I strive to make the world a better place for all, I also equally strive to make sure me and mine are in the haves!  I don't know how this duality will play out in myself or with this technology!
